Santa Marta, Colombia

We spent our last 5 days of vacation in Santa Marta, Colombia on the northern coast. Eduardo's sister and nephew joined us which was a lot of fun. None of us had ever been there before so everything was so new. Luckily Eduardo's sister found us a great apartment to stay in while we were there which was 3 bedrooms, 2 bath, kitchen, living room, everything we needed. We grocery shopped when we got there and bought enough for breakfast and dinner and always ate a good lunch out.
It was hot! There was no air condition anywhere, not even the Santa Marta airport! The apartment did have some floor fans that came in handy but we practically wore no clothes while we were there, just a bathing suit. Ana Maria lived in a diaper and her bathing suit the whole week! No clothes needed!
I have to tell you about the wind...it was also very windy at night. Eduardo was warned that it would be windy but we never imagined how windy it truly would be. Everynight we layed in bed, almost holding on to the bed and to eachother thinking we were going to get blown away. We had to keep the windows open because of the heat so it made the wind even worse. We watched the blinds fly everywhere, the closests bang and the pictures almost fly off the walls. It was scary at some points! This happened everynight and never got better. We laughed so hard about it in Colombia and still laugh about it, but it was something to see. We really should have gotten it on video! So....when someone tells you it will be windy, remember this!!
Overall, it was a great vacation and one of the first true vacations we have taken since our honeymoon in 2005. Everytime we go back to Colombia from now on, we want to try visiting a new city. Colombia just has so many great cities!

We saw a famous Colombian soccer player at the airport getting interview...I wish I could remember his name.

Ana Maria serving herself some good Colombian Juan Valdez coffee!

At the airport waiting to go to Santa Marta :)

The airplane view as we were getting close to the coast

This is the city of Santa Marta from the airplane

It was neat to see the beach from the sky

The ariport runway was directly next to the ocean. We flew so close to the water for a long period of time...we kept waiting to hit the runway. It was scary!

The airport was right on the beach :)

On one side of the street is the beach and other side is the mountains.

Ana Maria and I waiting for the stroller

This was our first view of the ocean as we were getting into the taxi

The mountains were so pretty, although we never made it to visit them. It would have taken a lot more days to do everything.

Juan Manuel and Eduardo at lunch the day we got there

Ana Maria eating her orange. She ate oranges, rice and yogurt the whole time we were there!

My sweet girl!!

This is the beach our apartment was on. Can you see the lighthouse behind us? At night it was so pretty to see.

We couldn't wait to get in the water!

Juan Manuel trying to dive into the wave :)

The beach wasn't very crowded this day, but it got much worse with many more people!

Eduardo's sister, Maria Cristina, telling me not to take a picture!

They dug sandcastles everyday, Ana Maria always tried to help!

I love the way Ana Maria is standing in this picture!

Our view of the beach from our apartment window.

She started a new thing while we were there of putting her fingers in her ears!
VIDEOS:

The view from our apartment window as it was getting dark.

This was a walk we took one night along the beach. People were still everywhere and still selling things everywhere!

Hey Girl! Man, you have been EVERYWHERE this summer. Looks like a TON of fun! Glad you were able to visit with both sides of your family this summer. I got your message the other night. I was packing to return to TX. We're back now, so once we get a little more settled, I'll give you a call. So sad we missed a playdate! We miss you all SOOOO much! Talk to you soon. Sally
